Makes me think how different my mentality is today vs. 25 years ago. Back then I thought nothing wrong with purchasing chemicals from any number of complete strangers of highly questionable moral standards who assured me that they had been formulated with the highest quality ingredients and manufactured in a NASA clean room by MIT grad students. Hey if you couldn't trust a drug dealer, who could you trust? Today, even if I had the urge, I'd be too terrified of waking up to find myself covered in blood with the aftertaste of face in my mouth.

1980's

I knew tour rats who were brewing up doses in hotel rooms...They got busted...excommunicated from the state of Virginia for life but no jail time. Hmmm.

We rarely mixed our "stuff" with wierd ass alcohol/caffiene/bath salts concoctions. Stayed pretty pure with doses and bong hits. I've never been a fan of "white powder" consumables. I liked that doses played both sides of the coin where ecstacy seemed to be only one side...the conscienceless side. Knew plenty of folks who chewed their own faces off with that crap.

I studied psychedelics long before I started seeing Dead shows. I was led to one by the other, but the opposite of how most folks got led.

Only once did I get more than I bargained for...and in the end it was just what I needed. Our little enclave of Dead freaks kept a very loving eye on each other, we would never let another one of us go down alone. This brotherhood/sisterhood is a big difference from todays world, we actually cared for each other not just what we could get from each other. When we connected with each other it was not via thumbing it was via hearting. I got saved quite a few times by these folks.

Dead shows were our lightning rod. But we lived it day to day.

The "aftertaste of face." You, sir, deserve a Pulitzer for that one. I will be using that phrase as much as possible in the future!
